So what are some of the "alternative facts" that had been used by MLM supporters?
- If I can succeed you can too... just like "any lotto ticket can be the big winner"
- Success requires hard work... and a whole lot of luck, and other stuff conveniently not mentioned
- Thousands of people around the world found MLM works for them... out of 100 million, as estimated by DSA
- Avon is nothing compared to the bigger network marketing companies... despite Avon is almost same size as Amway, about 10 billion annual revenue larger than any other MLM company.
- MLM is the next big thing that will replace all retail and they've been saying it for the past 40 years, and it's still not true
- MLM created the most millionaires of any modern industry... Nope, that'd be tech industry.
- MLM helps a lot of people make supplemental income (despite annual average sales of less than $2000 per person in the US, and that's just revenue, not profit). Just how much effort are you spending to make that extra $167 per month?
Have you spotted more "alternative facts" cited by MLM proponents about their particular MLM? Do they sound "reasonable" at first, but a quick fact-check disproved them easily? Share them in the comments.
Kasey, despite us being on opposite sides of this issues, you're one of the very few MLM critics I've always respected due to your usually well reasoned arguments and penchant for choosing worthy targets. But, wow, was this one a misfire.
ReplyDeleteEvery one of your seven "alternate facts" is either grossly outdated, logically nonsensical, or technically true but misleading when taken so far out of context – the very types of tactics you have for so long railed about.
Come on. You're better than this.
I was having a bit of burnout on blogging and forgot the moderate the comments. Sorry for the 3 month delay in approving your comment.
DeleteEvery one of the "alternative facts" are *bad* examples of MLMers trained by bad leaders out to enrich themselves rather than help the industry. Sure the whole article is "snarky", but I don't sugarcoat things, nor do you. And I know you don't deal with alternative facts, and correct them whenever possible. But let's face it: you are the minority in this business.
DeleteWhen an MLM says they have the most $100k earners, but bury the fine print that indicates that the figures used are cumulative by year, and relate to a best 12 month rolling window period, and that many aren't earning that now.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, it's far more likely they are referring to lifetime, whereas they intend you to think it's annual.
DeletePlease tell me you're not also going to be one of those MLM critics that censors negative feedback now, too. Are you?
ReplyDeleteI forgot to moderate comments for 2 months.
DeletePretty ironic comment, Len. You're an MLM scam supporter who won't engage with me, even though you have claimed you will debate anybody about MLM. You're obviously scared, Len. LOL
DeleteFloyd Mayweather has often proclaimed that he will fight anybody, but that doesn't mean if he's challenged by a blind guy with Down Syndrome he has to accept.

Just the response I would expect from the pencil-necked, pompous a$$hole that you are, Lenny. I'll be sure to cover this topic soon in a future weekly radio show with Peter Mingils. What influence did YOU have in the recent Vemma and Herbalife cases? Let's compare knockout blows, Lenny. LOL
