NEWS UPDATE 03-JUN-2014: Burnlounge is a pyramid scheme (duh); Merrill about to flip on Wanzeler in TelexFree case? Rippln + Mannatech = ?!?!?!

Remember folks, get your news from REPUTABLE news sources (which I link to) so you can decide for yourself, rather than just one-sided narrative by unknown people.

Burnlounge appeal rejected by Federal Appeals Court

Burnlounge appeal of their 2012 judgement as a pyramid scheme was rejected by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, affirming that they are indeed, a pyramid scheme.

My short profile on Burnlounge:
http://amlmskeptic.blogspot.com/2012/09/scam-study-burnlounge.html

In their decision, the court stated that:
The district court found that because purchasing a package was required for participation as a Retailer or Mogul, and because Moguls earned cash for selling packages, “[Moguls] by default received compensation for recruiting others into the program.”
The 9th Court's decision can be read here:

The short of it is, if you claim you sold something and are getting paid for that, but in effect you recruited and the recruits are required to buy something, then  your claim of sales is invalid... You are getting paid for recruiting, not selling.

What is interesting is the court's decision reaffirmed Webster vs. Omnitrition as a precedent, but it's no surprise as it's also the Ninth Court that made the Omnitrition decision.

You can read my summary of Omnitrition case here:

This would have some profound impact on some very big players in network marketing that relies on recruiting 'self-consumers' who then recruit more self-consumers to make themselves rich. Those who emphasize retail sales by sales teams should not be affected.

BREAKING NEWS: Rippln sued for Trademark Infringement by Ripple Labs

Rippln, a mostly viral marketing income opportunity, has been served with a lawsuit dated 12/27/2013 in San Francisco Federal Court by Ripple Labs.

Ripple Labs is a genuine tech startup backed by some of the biggest venture funds in Silicon Valley, including Google Ventures. Actually, to call it a startup is a misnomer, as Ripple had been operating since 2004 (and trademarked the term then).

Ripple Labs references multiple examples where users of Rippln signed up because they thought it's actually Ripple. Ripple Labs believes it had its reputation substantially damaged due to the "sliminess" of Rippln, as some are cautioning people to avoid both.

Internet, MLM and FOMO... is that what Rippln's about?

As I was updating my Rippln review I also listened to some podcasts, and one of them mentioned FOMO, or "fear of missing out", and how this social phobia is driving some obsessive behavior such as checking on Facebook / LinkedIn / Twitter constantly, in fear of missing some news updates, social happenings, or such that would somehow instantly make you a pariah among peers. Then the figurative lightbulb lit up over my head:

Rippln is just a FOMO exploiter.

Rippln's entire idea is to team up with somebody and market THEIR stuff to its constituents, and if some of the constituents buy the stuff, their upline(s) get a cut of the profit. But this is basically exploiting FOMO, where you subscribe to Rippln and hope you don't miss some special deal.

Unfortunately for Rippln, in order to make sure that there's enough PROFIT to be split bazillion ways among what they claim to be 1.4 million ripplers, thus far Rippln has picked a couple duds.

Hey Rippln, Dr. Seuss wants their game name back!

Rippln, the vaporware income opportunity, apparently finally made something real, as they announced that their game "Guessaroo", had been approved by iTunes store, and they are about to roll out their "Rippln Communicator".

Right now, I'm at the "I'll believe it when I see it, but that name "Guessaroo" sounded familiar...

Turns out it's from Dr. Seuss game... ALREADY IN ITUNES!

Stealing names from Dr. Seuss? What a Grinch you are, Rippln...

Rippln was ripped a new one by scambuster "Salty Droid"

Famous (infamous?) Scambuster "Salty Droid", who helped The Verge do an article on "Scamworld", has weighed in with his opinion on Rippln (warning: salty language at the link)

His conclusion is direct: it's a scam, involving the same scamworld players.

Russell Brunson had been on his radar for years, and Anthony Morrison was in the Verge article pitching products about internet scamming (marketing) that teaches internet scamming (marketing) made by internet scammers (marketers) to would-be internet scammers (marketers).

It's almost like the Borg, where "you will be assimilated".

Can you guess what Russell Brunson and Anthony Morrison were talking about recently? And posted their video online? Rippln, of course.
